The Amnesia Haze strain is the Amsterdam sativa legend: cerebral, energetic, with a citrus-and-spice aroma — but with 10 to 12 weeks of flowering it is also one of the slowest strains around. Amnesia Gold is our cross of Amnesia Haze and Lennon: the same Haze character, up to 26% THC and 65–75 days of flowering. Below you will find where Amnesia Haze comes from, its effects and THC content, whether it is sativa or indica — and which Amnesia suits your grow and your climate.

Amnesia Haze strain: origin and genetics
Amnesia Haze appeared in Amsterdam around the turn of the millennium. Its genetics combine Haze with lines from South-East Asia, Jamaica and Hawaii and a small share of Afghan indica — the exact recipe is still told in different ways. The breakthrough is certain: in 2004 Amnesia Haze won the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam and became the typical coffeeshop strain of the 2000s. It has been one of Europe's best-known strains ever since.
Many variants now circulate under the name: "original" Amnesia Haze, autoflowering versions and crosses such as Lemon Haze. What they share is the Haze core — long flowering, tall growth, citrus and spice notes and an uplifting effect.
Why is it called Amnesia?
There is no official explanation. The name is usually linked to the strong, heady effect: underestimate the strain and you quickly lose your train of thought. So the name is more of a warning than a sales promise.
Amnesia Haze effects, THC content and aroma
Amnesia Haze effects
Amnesia Haze is considered a classic daytime strain. The effect comes on quickly and is mainly cerebral: euphoric, talkative, creative and energetic — without the heavy body effect of an indica. Precisely because of this intensity it is often too much for beginners and people with low tolerance; at high doses it can make you restless.
Possible side effects
As with any high-THC sativa, the most common side effects are dry mouth and dry eyes. Some people feel anxious, jittery or dizzy, especially at higher doses or with low tolerance — start low and go slow.
Is Amnesia Haze good for beginners?
For consumption, rather not — the strong, heady effect quickly overwhelms inexperienced users. In the grow room, too, the classic Amnesia with its long flowering and strong stretch is no beginner's strain. Beginners have it easier with the autoflowering versions: they stay more compact, need no light switch and are ready in around two to three months. If you are looking for robust strains to start with in general, see seeds for beginners.
Amnesia Haze THC content
Classic Amnesia Haze lines usually sit at around 20–22% THC, with low CBD. Modern selections go higher: our Ramses — a stabilised selection of pure Amnesia Haze — reaches 23–26% THC, and Amnesia Gold up to 26%.
Aroma and terpenes
The typical aroma is fresh citrus over a spicy, slightly earthy base. The main contributors are limonene (lemon, orange), terpinolene (fresh and herbal, typical of Haze), caryophyllene (peppery) and myrcene (sweet and earthy). More about these compounds in our overview of terpenes and the entourage effect.
Is Amnesia Haze sativa or indica?
Amnesia Haze is sativa-dominant — 70 to 80% sativa depending on the line. You can see it in the plant: tall and slender, with a strong stretch in flowering and long, fairly airy colas. Amnesia Gold (75% sativa) and Ramses (80% sativa) follow the same pattern.

Amnesia Gold: what we changed in the Amnesia
For Amnesia Gold we crossed Amnesia Haze with Lennon, our Haze × Jack Herer sativa. The result keeps the Amnesia character but brings more yield and stability:
- Genetics: Lennon × Amnesia Haze, 75% sativa / 25% indica
- THC: 26%, low CBD
- Flowering indoors: 65–75 days (58–68 days under LED) — clearly shorter than the 10–12 weeks of many classic Amnesia lines
- Yield: indoors up to 800–850 g per 1.5 m² under a 720 W LED, outdoors 0.5–1.5 kg per plant
- Aroma: intense citrus, sweet, slightly spicy
- Effects: cerebral, creative, active, euphoric — a daytime strain
And why "Gold"? The name stands for what makes the cross: the golden mean between the aroma of the Amnesia and the yield of Lennon — and for the resinous buds that shine gold when ripe.

Amnesia Haze flowering time and growing in your climate
Classic Amnesia Haze needs 10 to 12 weeks of flowering indoors, plus 4 to 8 weeks of vegetative growth — a good four months to harvest. Outdoors it only ripens at the end of October or in November. In cool, damp climates — the UK, northern and central Europe, Canada and the northern US — that is usually too late: cold nights and autumn rain attack the long, dense Haze colas and mould becomes a real risk. In long, warm seasons such as southern Europe and California it can finish outdoors. That is why it pays to choose the Amnesia by location:
- Outdoors in a short season: Ramses — our Amnesia Haze seeds — finishes unusually early for an 80% sativa, in the 1st–2nd week of September, before the autumn rain.
- Indoors or in a greenhouse: Amnesia Gold seeds with 65–75 days of flowering and top yields. Outdoors only in warm, sheltered spots or long seasons, as the harvest falls in the 2nd–3rd week of October.
- Balcony and short summers: Auto Amnesia Gold (23–26% THC, around 80 days from germination to harvest) or Auto Ramses (22–24% THC, around 63 days under LED) — Amnesia Haze autoflowers, both without a light switch.
- For your own breeding: Amnesia Gold Regular with male and female plants.
Growing Amnesia indoors: five tips
- Keep the veg short: switch to 12/12 earlier than with an indica — after 2 to 4 weeks of growth. The plant doubles its height in flowering anyway.
- Train wide, not tall: with low stress training or a net (ScrOG) you spread the many shoots evenly under the light — so the lower buds fill out too.
- Keep the light at a distance: Haze strains are sensitive to too much heat at the tips. Keep the LED distance the manufacturer recommends and raise the intensity step by step.
- Feed sparingly: sativas usually need fewer nutrients than heavy indicas. Burnt leaf tips are the first sign to cut back.
- Keep the air moving: the long colas are airier than an indica's, but still vulnerable late in flowering — good airflow and controlled humidity prevent bud rot. How to spot bud rot early is shown in our guide Bud rot and cannabis mold.
Important for all Haze strains: plan for height. Sativas can double in size during flowering — training such as low stress training keeps them flat. When the buds are really ripe is shown by the trichomes: harvest when most of them have turned milky. How to read them is explained in our guide When to harvest cannabis.
The Haze family at Pyramid Seeds
If you like the Haze character, our catalogue has more strains with a similar profile:
- Lennon — Haze × Jack Herer, 80% sativa, 21–26% THC, incense and citrus notes. A parent of Amnesia Gold; for experienced growers.
- New York City — 70% sativa with a citrus-Haze profile, 18–20% THC, euphoric and stimulating.
- Ramses — our pure Amnesia Haze, 23–26% THC, finishes early.
All sativa strains are in the sativa seeds category, and the most potent ones under high-THC seeds.
FAQ: Amnesia Haze and Amnesia Gold

For balconies and short summers, Auto Amnesia Gold and Auto Ramses are the easiest options.
How long does Amnesia Haze take to grow?
Classic Amnesia Haze flowers for 10 to 12 weeks indoors; with the vegetative phase that is a good four months. Amnesia Gold needs 65–75 days of flowering, Ramses around 73 days under LED. The autoflowering versions are ready about 63 to 80 days after germination.
Is Amnesia Haze sativa or indica?
