Northern Lights is one of the most famous indica-dominant cannabis strains in the world. Known for its relaxing effects, compact structure, and extremely low odor, it’s ideal for discreet indoor or outdoor growing. In this category, we present all versions of this legendary Northern Lights plant — from the original feminized version to modern autoflowering and CBD strains.
Northern Lights is one of the world's best-known indica strains — famous for its deep, relaxing effect, discreet aroma and reliably high yields. With a THC content of 20–27% depending on the variant and an outdoor harvest from September, it's one of the most dependable classics for indoor and outdoor growing. Here you'll find every version of Northern Lights seeds — from the original feminized plant to Auto, CBD and the modern Gold Line. All with germination guarantee, direct from the breeder, with discreet worldwide shipping.
The Northern Lights strain emerged in the early 1980s on the U.S. West Coast, based on a cross between Afghani and Thai. This combination of two pure landraces was later stabilised and refined in the Netherlands by Sensi Seeds. From there, the original Northern Lights spread worldwide and influenced countless modern hybrids.
As a pure indica with high THC content, it has won multiple awards — including at the High Times Cannabis Cup. Even today it's considered a reliable classic for anyone seeking a deeply relaxing effect and high yields with minimal effort.
The effect of Northern Lights is typical of an indica-dominant strain: deeply relaxing, calming and physically noticeable. Many consumers value it for easing chronic pain, sleep issues, or simply unwinding after a long day.
Another reason for its popularity is its extremely discreet aroma during flowering — ideal for discreet indoor grows. Despite the low odour it produces a thick layer of resin on the buds. It also shines in resilience: robust against pests and disease, forgiving of minor watering or feeding mistakes.
The THC content of Northern Lights varies significantly by variant — from gentle CBD strains to the high-potency Gold Line:

Each variant has its own focus — choose by goal, experience and grow setup.
For experienced growers & maximum yield. The classic feminized version — 90% indica, 20–22% THC, up to 1.5 kg per plant outdoors. Flowering just 48–55 days. The gold standard among indica classics for indoor and outdoor.
For beginners & multiple harvests per year. Self-flowering, no light switch needed, 70 days from seed. The same 20–22% THC as the Fem version — ideal for discreet balcony or indoor growing without photoperiod management.
For medical users & gentle effect. 15–18% CBD at just 7–12% THC — deep relaxation without strong psychoactive effects. Ideal for chronic pain, inner tension or as an entry point for THC-sensitive users.
Self-flowering + CBD — the easiest format. Combines the advantages of autoflowering genetics with a balanced CBD profile. No light switch, short cycle, gentle effect — perfect for CBD users with limited space or no grow experience.
For connoisseurs & maximum potency. The most modern NL variant — classic indica effect meets the fruity candy aroma of the Runtz line. At 27% THC, the strongest version in the catalogue. Ideal for the evening or creative sessions with extra potency.
The Northern Lights plant is extremely easy to grow — a great choice for beginners and experienced growers alike. Its compact structure, short flowering time and low odour make it ideal for discreet indoor cultivation.
Yes — compared to many other strains, Northern Lights is especially low in odour during flowering. That makes it ideal for discreet growing, both indoors and outdoors.
Northern Lights delivers a strongly physical, relaxing effect. Many users report deep calm, better sleep and relief from chronic pain and tension.
THC varies by variant: the classic Northern Lights Fem contains 20–22% THC, and the Auto version 20–22% as well. The CBD variants have 7–12% THC. The strongest version is Northern Lights × Runtz at 27% THC.
For outdoor grows, the feminized Northern Lights is usually harvested early to mid-September — one of the earliest windows among indica strains. The Auto version can be harvested around 70 days from seed, allowing multiple harvests per season.
The Auto version flowers automatically around 70 days from seed with no light switch — ideal for beginners and multiple harvests per year. The feminized variant needs a switch to 12/12 light, but offers higher yield per plant (up to 1.5 kg outdoors) and more control over the growth cycle.
