El extracto de cannabis ha demostrado ser efectivo en la lucha contra el cáncer de piel (melanoma)

A recent study suggests that long-term administration of low doses of Δ9-THC, the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, could serve as a foundation for developing effective anti-aging and cognitive-enhancing treatments. Published in the American Chemical Society's Pharmacology and Translational Science journal, the research highlights significant increases in energy and synaptic protein production in elderly mice treated with Δ9-THC.

The study, backed by German government funds amidst the country's new cannabis legalization policy, reveals that low-dose Δ9-THC may reverse age-related cognitive decline. The researchers observed that in older mice, THC boosted the activity of mTOR—a protein crucial for cognitive function and cellular processes tied to aging. This activity led to the formation and repair of synapses, particularly in the hippocampus, a brain region associated with learning and memory.

The researchers also found that THC triggered a dual-phase effect. Initially, it increased mTOR activity and energy mobilization in the brain, promoting synaptic growth. This was followed by reduced mTOR activity in adipose tissue, which contributed to anti-aging effects by decreasing metabolic processes. Such a dual effect may pave the way for the development of drugs that not only enhance cognition but also combat aging.

Importantly, the study noted age-dependent effects of THC. While older mice benefited from improved cognitive abilities, younger mice experienced adverse effects, such as memory impairment. This aligns with previous research that also indicated different outcomes of THC treatment based on age.

The findings suggest that low-dose Δ9-THC could offer a novel approach to treating brain aging, potentially leading to breakthroughs in anti-aging and cognitive enhancement therapies.
