The study, published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, examined responses from adults in the U.S. and Canada who use marijuana at least three times a week for non-medical purposes. Participants recruited through Reddit completed a 30-minute baseline survey and answered brief surveys five times daily over one week, providing detailed insights into habitual users' everyday experiences.
Emotional Benefits and Paranoia Findings
Researchers found that habitual users reported positive emotions when high, including awe, inspiration, and gratitude, while experiencing reduced stress and fear. Notably, getting high was not associated with increased suspicion or paranoia among chronic users, contrary to popular depictions and medical symptom lists.

"At least among chronic users, the effects of cannabis intoxication in the real world are short-lived, with little indication of any sort of cannabis hangover a few hours later or the next day."
