Gelato comes from California and unites two iconic American genetics:
The result: a 55% indica-dominant hybrid that ranks among the most sought-after American strains worldwide. Gelato belongs to the Cookies family — the most influential American cannabis line of recent decades.
With 25–27% THC, Gelato is one of the strongest hybrid strains in the catalogue. This high THC range explains the intense, deep effect — ideal for experienced users, to be enjoyed with caution by beginners. The upper values are reached under optimal LED conditions.
The Gelato effect is two-phase and typical of a balanced hybrid:
Is Gelato indica or sativa? Gelato is a 55% indica / 45% sativa balanced hybrid — neither pure indica nor pure sativa. The effect combines physical relaxation with mental euphoria.
Is Gelato Haze or Kush? Neither — Gelato comes from the Cookies line (Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint GSC), not from the Haze or Kush family. That explains the sweet, creamy aroma that clearly differs from classic Haze or Kush profiles.
The aroma profile of Gelato is unmistakable — a fruity ice-cream aroma with creamy notes, sweet berry hints and an earthy Kush background. The purple buds with fiery orange hairs and dense white resin are as impressive visually as the aroma is on the palate.
| Terpene | Typical impressions | Contribution to the profile |
|---|---|---|
| Limonene | Citrusy, fresh, sweet | The fruity ice-cream profile, lifts the mood |
| Myrcene | Earthy, musky, sweet | A creamy base, supports physical relaxation |
| Caryophyllene | Spicy, peppery, warm | Spicy depth, balances the sweetness |
Flowering time 60–65 days (LED: 53–58 days). The yield is exceptional: 500 g/m² under standard conditions, up to 1,000 g/1.5 m² with a 720 W LED — one of the highest values in the whole catalogue. Good ventilation and humidity control recommended; light defoliation helps the lower buds develop.
Outdoors, Gelato yields up to 1 kg per plant in a warm climate. The compact structure with well-developed buds suits outdoor projects in Mediterranean-type and similar climates. As a photoperiod strain, it is planted out once the risk of frost has passed and starts flowering when the days shorten in late summer.

Neither. Gelato belongs to the Cookies line (Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint GSC) — not the Haze or Kush family. That explains the sweet, creamy ice-cream aroma that clearly differs from classic Haze or Kush profiles.
Gelato 33 and Gelato 41 are different phenotypes of the original Gelato genetics — named after their selection number. Gelato 33 (also called "Larry Bird") is known for its fruity profile, Gelato 41 for its creamier, denser character. The Pyramid Seeds version combines the best traits of this line.
60–65 days indoors — as little as 53 days under LED. Yield up to 1,000 g/1.5 m² under a 720 W LED with optimal care; outdoors up to 1 kg per plant.
Yes. Gelato seeds are feminized — “feminised” in British spelling — so practically every plant is a female that produces buds. It is a photoperiod strain; for a version with no light switch, see Gelato Auto.
Gelato is rated moderate: it rewards good ventilation, humidity control and light defoliation. Beginners who want a simpler grow often start with Gelato Auto, which needs no light schedule.
