"Later on, we decided to expand the collection and work with regular seeds too, to give growers more options. With the European strains it was easy, since we had access to male plants. But with the American strains, there were no regular male plants available. That meant we had to start a backcrossing process to restore them."

The Backcrossing Process

• Crossed Cookies with a European regular male plant (White Russian), producing seeds with 50% genetics from each.
• Grew out the plants and selected only males. Traits from White Russian were phased out, keeping those closest to Cookies.
• These males were crossed back with the original U.S. Cookies clone, reaching 75% Cookies genetics.
• The process was repeated, always backcrossing to the original clone, gradually increasing the Cookies percentage.

Final Results

• 75% Cookies
• 87.5% Cookies
• 93% Cookies
• Up to 97% Cookies in the final regular seed line

Thanks to this work, Pyramid Seeds managed to release regular versions of American strains, despite the market being largely focused on feminized seeds.
