A new study by researchers at Penn State College of Medicine has shown that two cannabinoids, cannabidiol (CBD)and cannabigerol (CBG), may be potentially effective in treating bone fractures.
In the study, published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, the researchers investigated the effects of CBD and CBG on fracture healing in mice. They found that both cannabinoids:
• Promoted fracture healing: CBD and CBG increased the number of progenitor cells in the periosteum, which are important for the formation of new bone tissue.
• Relieved pain: CBD and CBG reduced inflammation and pain associated with fractures.
Advantages of CBD and CBG:
• Safety: CBD and CBG are generally well tolerated and have a low risk of side effects.
• Efficacy: CBD and CBG may be more effective than nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in treating fractures.
