Medicinal marijuana seeds, also known as CBD seeds or therapeutic cannabis seeds, constitute a specialized variety distinguished by their sedative and relaxing effects, both on a physical and mental level. Consequently, there has been significant development in CBD seed varieties.
Based on their characteristics, we can classify medicinal marijuana plants as follows:
Photoperiod Therapeutic Marijuana: Rich in CBD and low in THC, it requires a photoperiodic cycle to reach maturity.
Autoflowering Therapeutic Marijuana: Rich in CBD and low in THC, not subject to any photoperiod.
The therapeutic use of CBD seeds has roots dating back many centuries, not being a new practice of our era. In ancient times, the narcotic and sedative effects of CBD marijuana were highly valued for relieving pains for which no treatment existed.
Currently, the consumption of medicinal marijuana as a therapeutic alternative is widespread and is primarily recommended for specific patients suffering from severe diseases that limit their quality of life, especially those experiencing intense pain. Examples of such diseases include:

The reason why the consumption of CBD marijuana (or products made from CBD) is recommended for patients with these ailments is due to its sedative and narcotic effects both on a physical and mental level, capable of calming and neutralizing body pain for a few hours. However, in many countries, there is no clear legislation regarding CBD marijuana, and therefore, doctors are not always authorized to recommend its consumption 100% officially.
In the case of Spain, the legalization of medicinal marijuana varieties was approved in 2022 for sale in pharmacies in the form of ointments, creams, drops, pills, etc. Following the approval of the law regulating its use, it is legal in Spain for healthcare professionals to recommend CBD-rich products for the treatment of ailments.
After being approved by a large majority, the consumption of therapeutic marijuana and the commercialization of CBD-rich products is now legal in Spain as long as the medications and treatments have been prescribed by authorized healthcare personnel. Until now, in Spain, there were only two CBD-derived products authorized by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices that could be purchased in pharmacies, but after the approval of this law, new products can be distributed, and even new ones can be created.
This law authorizes healthcare professionals to prescribe the consumption of CBD-rich products or even the plant itself, although with certain restrictions. Although the protocol is not 100% defined, the idea is that these products are administered through hospital pharmacies.
For now, healthcare professionals will be able to prescribe the consumption of therapeutic marijuana or CBD-derived products only if the primary treatment for the patient's ailment or disease is failing or not producing the desired effects. Therefore, it is not considered a first-line treatment but will be reserved for specific cases.
For now, Spanish legislation includes as preferred patients for these treatments those suffering from multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and patients with chronic pain not of oncological origin. This excludes cancer patients, something that experts reject, although it remains to be seen whether cancer patients will be able to benefit from treatments derived from medicinal marijuana.
The therapeutic effects of medicinal marijuana are varied. Its narcotic and sedative effects allow relief from the pain of multiple ailments. Among its most important properties, it is worth highlighting:
