L’objectif d’une récente étude était de comprendre comment un extrait spécifique de cannabis provoque la mort des cellules dans le cas du mélanome, une forme de cancer de la peau. En s’appuyant sur des recherches antérieures, des scientifiques australiens ont étudié les mécanismes moléculaires des effets du cannabis sur les cellules du mélanome. Leur étude, intitulée « Évaluation des mécanismes de mort cellulaire induits par l’extrait de cannabis PHEC-66 dans le mélanome », a été publiée en janvier 2024 dans la revue Cells. Grâce à des méthodes scientifiques avancées, les chercheurs ont démontré que l’extrait de Cannabis sativa PHEC-66, principalement composé de cannabidiol (CBD), inhibe la croissance des cellules cancéreuses et provoque leur mort.

Les expériences ont montré que l’extrait de cannabis :

•    empêche la formation de nouvelles cellules cancéreuses (métastases),
•    freine la propagation des cellules cancéreuses dans l’organisme,
•    réduit la mobilité des cellules cancéreuses,
•    perturbe le fonctionnement des cellules cancéreuses, entraînant leur mort programmée (apoptose).

« La détérioration des cellules de mélanome empêche leur propagation dans l’organisme et déclenche leur mort programmée, appelée apoptose », a expliqué Nazim Nassar, co-auteur de l’étude. Il a également souligné que l’utilisation clinique actuelle du cannabis inclut déjà le traitement de l’anxiété, de la douleur chronique et de l’épilepsie, et que des recherches comme celle-ci enrichissent les connaissances sur le cannabis et le cancer.

« Il est essentiel de mieux comprendre le potentiel des extraits de cannabis, en particulier leur capacité en tant qu’agents anticancéreux », a déclaré M. Nassar.

Le mélanome, connu pour sa forte tendance à métastaser, reste difficile à traiter avec les méthodes actuelles. En conclusion, les chercheurs appellent à des études précliniques supplémentaires pour explorer l’utilisation des cannabinoïdes spécifiques dans la thérapie anticancéreuse.
